Four Offbeat Packing Tips To Save You Time And Energy
Moving is always a stressful and time-consuming endeavor. The most time-consuming aspect, for many people, is packing. You've probably heard some basic packing tips before, like using stronger boxes and being careful to wrap delicate things in bubble wrap. But here are some more offbeat packing tips that will help you save time and effort.
1. Use bags for hangup clothing.
Packing hung up clothing can be a challenge since you have to take everything off of the hangers, make sure it does not get wrinkled, and then hang it all up again. Here's a better idea. Cut a small hole in the bottom of a big, plastic garbage bag, and then slip the bag over a set of 4 or 5 hung-up items, putting the top of the hanger through the hole. The bag will protect clothing from damage and keep the clothing on the hangers, so you can just lay the package of clothing down and transport it that way.
2. Wrap items in towels.
This tip will take care of packing your towels and your fragile items all at once! Use your towels, kitchen cloths, and even dusting rags to wrap up your glasses, picture frames, and other delicate items. The towels will protect the items, and you don't have to buy bubble wrap. And when you unpack, you'll once again be unpacking two categories of items at once.
3. Just toss some things in.
Your instinct may be to neatly arrange everything in boxes. Surely, this is important for more delicate items like plates and glasses. But what's the point of spending an extra ten minutes folding every sheet or towel perfectly? Just toss items like this in a box to save time. You'll have to refold and arrange them all when you unpack, anyways.
4. Get boxes that are all the same size.
When all of your boxes are the same size, you will have a lot less trouble stacking them. You'll also waste less time wondering what box to use for what items. There's no decision to make -- they all look the same. When you come across heavy items, like books, only pack the box half-way full with the heavy items, and then fill it the rest of the way with lighter things like curtains or sheets.
